Soul Retrieval

"Soul Retrieval is the foundation of shamanic healing. It is through soul retrieval that we regain wholeness, integrity, and personal power." Gwilda Wiyaka, DD, CSI
Soul Loss
We don’t actually lose our souls or even parts of our souls. Soul loss is a term that "Shamans" have used to describe what happens to us when a integral aspect of ourselves disconnects from our whole in an effort to avoid the pain of a trauma or unbearable circumstance. It is important to note that at the time of the trauma, the soul loss was a needed to help survive. In psychology this is called dissociation. But in psychology, what is not discussed is where that part goes. In shamanism we understand that when a piece of the soul leaves the body it goes to a realm in what "Shamans" called non ordinary reality. The soul part waits there until an intervention within the spiritual realm facilitates its return, therefore bringing us back more fully into essence and power. It has always been the role of the shaman, (and now the shamanic practitioner) to go into an altered state of consciousness and track down to where the soul has fled in the alternate realities and then return it to the body of the client.
Although the soul loss is a survival mechanism, problems often occur later because the departed piece does not usually come back on its own, therefore a person is not truly living as their whole being nor are they in their full power. This energetic loss also affects other aspects of ourselves- the mental, physical and emotional self and they will seek a level more in harmony with the imbalance of the loss. Also, we often establish coping mechanisms that further complicate the probability of attracting what will help us to be all that is our true nature. When we bring back the soul part we raise the vibrational frequency on a spiritual level, which raises the frequency on the other levels and returns balance to the whole.
A soul retrieval occurs at the spiritual level of your being. Be aware that during the time that follows a soul retrieval and its integration, your mental, emotional and physical levels will also be affected as the four levels are all connected. Memories may appear (mental), you may or may not feel sadness or joy (emotional), or you might experience a headache or relief from pain (physical).
After a soul retrieval and integration you can expect to see your life change. You see more clearly, become unstuck, and move forward in your life with joy and power.
Soul Sharing and Soul Stealing
Our personal energy or essence can also be given away, consciously or unconsciously (soul sharing), and even taken away by another (soul stealing), especially when we are not well protected or have sustained a lot of soul loss. For instance, we offer others some of our essence when our heart goes out to them or we reach out and offer them a assistance. When we offer our support, we are literally fueling another's life with our energy. If this is done just long enough for the other person to gather their own energy, it is appropriate, but if you move into a codependent role or pity, you can become depleted, literally giving up your personal energy (sacrificing yourself) to fuel someone elses energy or life force.
Magical Transformation
In indigenous cultures it was understood that soul loss would be a consequence of any traumatic event, and soul retrieval was done within three days of the trauma. In our society, we have soul loss from birth, but we don't have a provision for spiritual healing, so it is left unaddressed. Many people are of the mindset that once we become ill or are traumatized, we never really recover. Our whole culture has a belief system that supports this. We do not have to be victims of our trauma. Spiritual healing methods like soul retrieval can actually reverse negative patterns, heal depression and in some cases even help people recover from life-threatening illnesses. A series of soul retrievals can sometimes cause people to feel and look many years younger. This is because the body responds to the re-enlivened spirit inside it. Moving spirit through our physical bodies changes them. The transformation can be quite magical.
